Year in review, 2022

Can over can't, every time!

We are proud of what Foster Can, Inc. was able to accomplish during 2022. In addition to meeting 86% of our fundraising goal for the year, we successfully built partnerships with various organizations, assisted young adults in foster care as they prepare to transition out, and continued planning for another year of success. Below is a brief list of all we were able to accomplish. Thanks to all that donated their time, money, prayers, or other forms of support for this community.

  • Received and infrastructure Grant that helped us establish a Resource Room for youth and young adults in and transitioning out of foster care to look for jobs and explore higher education

  • Conducted research through focus groups to learn what resources are needed by youth in foster care supervised independent living programs

  • Hosted our first annual Foster Care Awareness Event in May

  • Facilitated a Building Bridges Trauma & Transition Workshop for child welfare workers and community partners.

  • Featured in publications including the Passion Wins Magazine and the Albany Business Review

  • Distributed $4000+ to assist foster youth with securing housing and resources for continuing education through the Total Live Better and Dream Bigger Scholarships

  • Distributed over Thanksgiving Baskets (total value of $7500) to foster care agencies in the Capital Region of NY, including a teen foster parent program

  • Partnered with Foster Youth Success Alliance to host virtual foster youth forums about wellness and mental health support for young adults in foster care enrolled in college

  • Continued Partnerships with Mission Accomplished, Oakwood, Foster Youth Success Alliance, and Vanderheyden

  • Christmas Holiday Outreach included over 100 children/youth this year, including youth in foster care.

We plan to continue our efforts into 2023 and look forward to supporting this community!

Thanks, again, to all who have supported the mission! Carrie Relf
